To our valuable supporters,
Since that horrible day on 9/11/01, when so many innocent people were murdered life has surely changed. As you know we lost our amazing son and brother, FDNY FF Michael Kiefer. Sadly we never had a recovery. Through our pain and sorrow as his family we were determined to do what we could to honor him and keep his memory alive. Michael was always doing what he could to help others. This was evident by the careers he chose in life, Long Beach Lifeguard, FDNY EMS and ultimately FDNY Firefighter, his dream job. For this reason we thought it only appropriate to continue what he lived his life doing and that is to help others. For the past 12 years we have held a dinner/dance fundraiser, “Back in the Day” to not only honor Michael and his love of oldies music but to raise money in his name. The proceeds went toward the NY Firefighters Burn Center Foundation and the FDNY Fire Family Transport unit. Due to the success of these events and your support and generosity, we were able to purchase a van in Michael’s name that was donated to the Fire Family Transport Unit. Just some of the ways the van was used was to bring sick firefighters and their families to doctors appointments and during funerals. Knowing that the van was helping others during these extremely difficult times made us feel like Michael was still helping others as he would have been if he were still here on earth.
Many years have past since the van’s purchase and it has begun to show. It is not able to be used anymore like it was. For this reason we have decided that for the 20 year anniversary we would like to purchase a new van to be used again in Michael’s name. We are asking for your help once again in making this possible. Due to Covid we have been unable to have any in person fundraising events. We understand that times are hard for many of you but if you are able to we would appreciate any donation you can. We thank you for all your support you have shown in the past and appreciate any you can show now. Thank you most importantly for never forgetting Michael and for helping to keep his memory alive!
